about

The first release on Head Of Crom was the final album from the now-defunct Black Sun - a truly savage power-trio who bludgeoned audiences to deafness in the first decade of the 21st century. A joint release with Future Noise of Manchester, ‘Twilight Of The Gods’ is a brutal and bleak sixty-minute masterpiece, possibly the most accomplished recording the Glasgow band ever did. Eleven tracks of bone-crushing and ultra-heavy despair, like some hellish hybrid of Converge, Godflesh, Amebix and early Swans. This remarkable and criminally over-looked album first went on release in September 2010. It cost me a small fortune to pay for the recording at some swanky studio in Glasgow, but I'd come into some money and I decided to roll the dice because I 100% believed in the band. However, they never really pushed it after release and I sense there was tension between the three members. Needless to say, it pretty much bombed, and I lost a fair few bob in the process. If you haven’t heard it yet, please grab a copy. It is simply breath-taking. Eugene Robinson from Oxbow is on two tracks (Tabula Rasa and Baby Don't Cry). He was actually flown in from California to do the vocals. What the fuck eh? If Black Sun were from NYC then this would have sold like crack. The whole chapter ended as a bitter disappointment, yet Twilight Of The Gods still stands as a buried classic in the annals of British noise-rock. Amazing album. Amazing band.
Black Sun were:
Russell McEwan - drums and lead vocals.
Kevin Hare - guitar and vocals.
Graeme Leggate - bass.
